Pomona : New Street Names Proposed

Share

You can’t meet at the corner of Hoops and Loop yet or take a drive down Crank Avenue, but those are some of the names the city Cultural Arts Commission would like to hang on new streets.

The commission this week recommended that new streets be named for prominent residents from Pomona’s early days. The proposed list of 64 names includes F. DeWitt Crank, the city’s first physician; Peter Hoops, a businessman and horticulturist who settled in Pomona in the early 1880s, and the Rev. C. F. Loop, who in 1889 donated the Goddess Pomona marble statue that is on display in the city library.

The City Council deferred action on the list to give the police and fire departments time to review the names to make sure that none of them would be confusing to dispatchers.
