Wilson Works to Pay His Debt

Gov. Pete Wilson was working to pay off his own deficit Thursday night in Orange County as he attended a fund-raiser at the home of developer Al Baldwin in Emerald Bay.

The event was held to help pay off Wilson’s 1990 gubernatorial campaign debt.

Wilson also made a short appearance at the Dana Point home of developer Kathryn Thompson to talk to a crowd buying tables ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 each for a gala in September for the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

Wilson joked that he would be willing to perform at the gala, although the most frequent request of him from audiences at these things “is not to perform.”

“My wife is the performer, and I have the chutzpah,” Wilson said.
