Changes at German Central Bank: The German government is expected to name Bundesbank Deputy President Helmut Schlesinger as successor to outgoing Central Bank President Karl Otto Poehl. The 66-year-old monetarist hard-liner would be appointed for two years, government sources said. Board member Hans Tietmeyer, 59, would be Schlesinger’s deputy and later replace him as president. The decision is expected to be made next week. Poehl, 61, recently announced that he was resigning as Bundesbank president in October for personal reasons.
