Warning on Latex: The Food and Drug Administration has cautioned doctors and manufacturers about potential allergic reactions to latex products after receiving reports of deaths and life-threatening shock. The agency said that last year the deaths of at least four patients undergoing barium enemas were linked with allergic reactions to an inflatable latex cuff used in the procedure. He said the FDA had also learned of life-threatening reactions in nearly 50 cases involving latex gloves or anesthesia equipment with latex parts and in one case involving a condom.
