Ty Game: Tarnished baseball legend Pete Rose, who made baseball history when he broke Ty Cobb’s all-time base hit record in 1985, will portray Cobb in NBC’s “The Babe Ruth Story,” which begins filming Tuesday for airing this fall. Rose will be in two scenes, both set in 1926 when Cobb was the Detroit Tigers player-manager. The first is in Cobb’s hotel suite, where Ruth (played by Stephen Lang) tells Cobb of his desire to manage the Yankees, a wish never fulfilled. The other has Cobb involved in an argument with an umpire after Ruth is called safe at second base on a close play.
