Car Plunges Off Wharf; Divers Find Body Inside
A car plunged off a wharf into the murky waters of Los Angeles Harbor in the pre-dawn hours Friday, and divers recovered a man’s body from the submerged vehicle, authorities said.
The car was headed south on Avalon Avenue when it crashed through a chain-link fence and careened off the wharf near Berth 185.
Port police on routine patrol discovered the broken fence and notified volunteer port divers of a possible car in the water. Three hours after they began, divers recovered the body of a man inside the submerged car, city Harbor Department spokesman Mike Levitt said. His identity was not immediately known.
