How His Garden Grows

Share

Would someone please run over to the Garden Editor’s office and get that man’s head out of the dirt.

How can a man who gives advice to a million readers regarding their own gardens, admit so casually that he uses the most water on his block and that he hasn’t quite gotten around to installing a drip irrigation system for his “thirsty” garden (“How His Garden Grows,” May 26).

Quick, someone get this man a news section! There’s a big drought going on, pal. As soon as he gets the dust out of his eyes, he may notice we live in a desert and there was never a time in Southern California that we had “plenty of water.” Conserving water should be a way of life, not something he “may get around to” (as in his drip irrigation). It’s hard to imagine that one who is in the business of informing can be so reckless and uninformed.

Hopefully, the many thousands who read Smaus’ article on his lovely garden will act more responsibly than the man who planted it and myopically wrote about it.
