ROWING : Penn and Boston Win Titles

Pennsylvania and Boston University took early leads and never relinquished their respective divisions Saturday in the National Collegiate Rowing Championships.

The regatta was the final varsity competition for UCLA, which will stop funding the sport. The UCLA men finished sixth and the women were third.

Penn’s eight-man team covered the 2,000-meter Harsha Lake course in 5 minutes 58.21 seconds and Boston’s eight won the women’s competition in 7:03.2.

In the men’s race, Northeastern challenged Penn at 1,500 meters but finished second in 5:58.48.

Harvard finished third in 6:02.04 followed by Washington, 6:06.13; Cornell, 6:09.31; and UCLA, 6:13.20.

In the women’s race, Boston led at 500 meters and was never challenged as it beat second-place Cornell by 3.01 seconds. UCLA finished in 7:08.16.
