Curtis Brewer; Lawyer Founded Agency for the Disabled

Curtis Brewer, 65, a lawyer who founded Untapped Resources, a legal services agency for the disabled. Brewer founded the organization in 1964 after learning that many disabled people were unaware of their rights or prevented by red tape from receiving services they were entitled to. He also was an early advocate of public access for the disabled. He launched that campaign after he was unable to get his wheelchair into Carnegie Hall to attend a concert by violinist Itzhak Perlman, who was a friend. A viral infection of the spine had left Brewer paralyzed from the neck down since 1955. On Wednesday in New York of complications from surgery that he had undergone to treat a lung condition brought on by the infection.
