WORLD IN BRIEF : SAUDI ARABIA : Executions Resume; Opposition Minimal

Public executions have resumed in Saudi Arabia, showing how little its Muslim society has changed despite the new cooperation with the West that arose from the Persian Gulf War. The beheading of 16 criminals in the last three weeks has prompted little local reaction, even among Saudi liberals who have pressed for reforms in other areas of Saudi life.
