World champion Greg Welch and Triathlete of the Year Paula Newby-Fraser will return to defend their titles in the Port of San Diego International Triathlon June 23. The race will open with the swim leg at Spanish Landing Park at 6:55 a.m.

Newby-Fraser holds the course record for women at 1:34:56 for the 7-year-old event. San Diegan Scott Tinley is the men’s record holder at 1:27:27. The field, which includes top San Diego area competitors Tony Richardson, Paul Huddle, Todd Jacobs, Janine Daley and Shannon Delaney, will compete for a $10,000 total purse. Proceeds from the race will benefit the St. Vincent De Paul Village.
