Marston at the Capitol

Share

I was disheartened to read your recent article on former state Rep. Jeff Marston. (“Marston Has Seen the Enemy and It’s Reelection,” June 10). Marston’s complaint that he didn’t know whether the 1,600 legislative proposals he voted on were good or bad for San Diego points to his inability to be in contact with his constituents.

Maybe if Jeff had stopped daydreaming about running for another political office, he would have found the time to meet with the folks back home. How could spending time with (Assembly Speaker) Willie Brown, or bowling with Democrats be more important than that?

Throughout all of Marston’s whining about how bad it is up there, he never mentions the people of the 78th Assembly District. What are their needs? What’s best for them?

Clearly, Jeff’s got what’s best for him down pat. From his perspective, the only issue worth discussing with The Times is how his political career was thwarted or cut short.

Getting to the top in politics is not what public service is all about. The saddest part of all is that Jeff still doesn’t get it. It’s a good thing that he was replaced by a more able and receptive representative from San Diego.
