Athletes Against Drugs, a Fullerton-based program started last year to educate youth about the hazards of alcohol and drug abuse, was honored at a recent national conference of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

More than 1,400 clubs from throughout the nation competed for the award, which was also given to six other clubs at the May conference in San Diego, said Joe Marziello, an official of the Fullerton club.

The Fullerton program, which is co-sponsored by the Police Department and the local Boys and Girls Clubs, won the Honor Award for Program Excellence in the health and physical education category, Marziello said.
