PORT HUENEME : 32-Foot Air Show Banner Is Stolen

Share

A thief with unusual taste in memorabilia has swiped a 32-foot-long banner advertising the upcoming Point Mugu Air Show from a fence at the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme.

“Maybe it was taken by someone who got carried away and wanted to have a banner that mentions the Blue Angels,” said base spokesman Bob Hubbert. “You’d have to have an awfully big room to hang that up in.”

The bright-blue canvas bore white-painted lettering that read: “1991 Point Mugu Air Show, July 6 & 7, Celebrate the Victory with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels & More.” It was stolen during the weekend.

The banner was last seen hanging in its assigned post, on a fence at Ventura Road and Channel Islands Boulevard. It was made in base workshops at a cost of several hundred dollars. “A lot of careful, painstaking work went into it, and there isn’t enough time to make one to replace” it, Hubbert said.

Base officials are seeking any information on the whereabouts of the banner, which is government property. Anyone with information is asked to call 989-8094.
