Molotov Cocktail Tossed Onto Boycotted Store

Share

A Molotov cocktail was tossed Tuesday onto the roof of a South Los Angeles convenience store that is owned by a Korean-American who fatally shot a 42-year-old African-American during an alleged attempted robbery.

The bottle, containing a flammable liquid, burned out and caused no damage or injuries, Los Angeles Police Lt. Eric A. Lillo said.

African-American religious and civic groups on Monday kicked off a boycott of Chung’s Liquor Market in the 7900 block of South Western Avenue because of the June 4 death of Lee Arthur Mitchell of Los Angeles. The coalition, including the Brotherhood Crusade, has also called for a new investigation into Mitchell’s death. The district attorney’s office declined to file criminal charges against the store owner, Tae Sam Park, after finding that he had reason to shoot Mitchell.

A handful of picketers and about a dozen onlookers were outside the store when the Molotov cocktail hit.
