COUNTYWIDE : County Schools to Lay Off 4 Workers
Four employees will be laid off and vacant positions will not be filled under a $28.1-million budget approved by the Ventura County Board of Education.
The budget, which is $2.3 million less than the 1990-91 budget, was approved by the board Monday.
Despite tight budget times, no programs were eliminated from the county system. However, the budget reflects 13 fewer staff positions, said Robert E. Smith, assistant superintendent for business services.
Four people will be laid off and nine vacant positions will not be filled, he said. Two of the layoffs are in the media services unit, which provides instructional films and other supplies to schools countywide. He said fewer schools are contracting with the county for the service.
