Michael may not be there. Magic might have other plans. But at least one member of the Los Angeles Clippers and the team’s publicity machine are expected to be there in the flesh, so be sure to turn out for the third annual Diet Pepsi Hoops and Hightops 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday in the streets of Old Pasadena.

The Clippers entourage will be staging a basketball clinic for those who want to hone their techniques. The basketball tournament, sponsored by the Pasadena Junior Chamber of Commerce, will provide funds for the Jaycees’ community service programs such as Toys for Tots.

More than 60 teams have

shelled out the $60 to play, and late registrations will be accepted starting Saturday morning at 7 a.m. Play is double elimination, and all teams are guaranteed three games.

Divisions will be based on experience, height, age and agility.

The competition will include a slam dunk, free throw and three-point shot contests. And spectators, admitted free, are encouraged to hoop it up.

Although this action may never rival the Lakers, those tickets are hard to come by anyway, and look at it this way: The Hoops and Hightops tourney offers seats that aren’t in the nosebleed section.
