Azusa : Council Orders Rent Study

Share

The City Council has ordered a feasibility study on a rent control proposal that would begin with mobile home parks.

At the request of Councilman Harry Stemrich and some mobile home residents, the council ordered staff members to study ways the city can begin a three-phase rent control program. The first phase would include mobile home parks and senior complexes. The second and third phases would include apartments and houses.

No date was set for the completion of the staff report.

“All we want is for (land owners) to be fair,” said Camille DeMascio, resident of Arrow Pines Mobile Estates. “The people of these homes need some protection.”

For more than a year, DeMascio has been organizing mobile home renters to pressure the council to enact a rent control ordinance.
