Approved Budget Contains No Cuts

With little discussion, the Lomita City Council this week unanimously approved a $5.4-million budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1 that contains no layoffs or service cuts.

An additional $1.1-million was allocated for capital projects and $379,222 was set aside for special programs, such as community development or park improvement projects. Unlike many South Bay cities, Lomita’s spending plan does not require dipping into its reserves to balance its general fund.

Other allocations include $220,800 for recreation programs, $301,900 for the city’s Planning Department and $1.4-million to cover the city’s contract with the Sheriff’s Department.
