ANAHEIM : Schools, Developer Reach Agreement

Share

The developer of an Anaheim apartment complex and school officials worried that the project will bring too many children to the district reached an agreement this week that may add extra classrooms at some school sites.

The agreement included a promise from the city to give the Anaheim City School District additional funds beyond regular fees paid by developers to help improve the overcrowded elementary schools.

The William Lyon Co., developer of Brookhollow Apartments, will pay the district state-mandated fees of $107,000 and will also provide economic and planning services to help the district better use existing school space.

Additionally, city redevelopment funds will give the district $53,000, which, coupled with the developer’s fees, is enough to pay for two modular classrooms. District officials said the housing project is likely to bring as many as 60 more children to its schools, and two new rooms would be needed to house them.
