SRI LANKA : 20 Killed in Blast at Military Barracks
A powerful bomb devastated a barracks and blew the roof off the headquarters for Sri Lankan military operations against Tamil rebels, killing at least 20 people and wounding 40, police said. The suspected car bomb left a 6-foot crater in the street and set half a dozen cars on fire. Hundreds of people ran screaming in panic through the residential neighborhood and roofs were blown off nearby homes. There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but suspicion fell immediately upon the Tamil rebels who have carried out a series of bomb attacks in Colombo, the capital.
