Chihiro Hamana of Tohoku Fukushi University hit a three-run homer in a six-run second inning as Japan defeated the United States, 14-9, in the opener of the best-of-five Collegiate Baseball Championship series.
Chris Roberts of Florida State led the U.S. team with a three-run homer in the seventh inning and finished with five runs batted in.
