Animal Supporters

Thank you for printing the comments of Oakland A’s manager Tony La Russa (Platform, June 19). La Russa clearly and accurately expressed the feelings of many of us “wackos” concerned with the ethical treatment of animals.

I would only add one observation to La Russa’s: Those involved in the fur-meat-hunting industries would have you believe that being “pro-animal” necessitates being “anti-people.” In reality, the people I know who are actively concerned with the welfare of animals are also concerned with the welfare of humankind. What many of us wackos have in common is a respect for life--all life.
