SEAL BEACH : 500 Expected in Rough Water Swim

More than 500 swimmers are expected to compete in the 23rd annual Seal Beach Rough Water Swim on July 20.

This year’s event will include 10-mile, 3-mile and 1-mile swims for men and women, along with age-group divisions for youngsters up to 14 years old. Deadline for entry in the 10-mile and 3-mile races is Saturday.

An information meeting detailing course routes and conditions will be at 5 p.m. July 19 at the Seal Beach Yacht Club. All swimmers, paddlers, coaches and support personnel are encouraged to attend the meeting, which will be followed by a complimentary spaghetti dinner.

Registration materials will be available the day of the event. To participate in the 3-mile or 10-mile races, swimmers must be accompanied by long-board paddlers or kayakers and must preregister. Paddlers can be hired by calling Fred Campbell at (213) 494-4328 and kayakers by calling Denny Capp at (714) 722-0776.

Check-in for the 10-mile race is at 5:30 a.m., with the race starting at 6 a.m. at the west side of the Huntington Beach pier. The 3-mile starting time is at 8 a.m., with check-in at 7:30 a.m. at the west side of the Seal Beach pier. Check-in for other events will follow at 8 a.m.

Registration for the 3-mile and 10-mile races is $15. For other events, the cost is $10.
