PORT HUENEME : Search On for Man Missing From Boat
Helicopters searched the waters off Ventura County on Wednesday night for a Los Angeles man believed to have fallen off a small boat while fishing alone, a Coast Guard spokesman said.
An 18-foot aluminum bass boat was found abandoned and still running about four miles south of Port Hueneme Harbor, Petty Officer Gerry Ryan said. The boat was launched from Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard earlier in the day, he said.
The man borrowed the boat from a friend with the intention of going out for about an hour of fishing, Ryan said. Another boater discovered the small craft about 5 p.m. and towed it to the harbor, he said.
The name of the man feared lost was not released.
