Bail was set Thursday at $5 million for a state prison parolee charged with murdering, six days after his release from prison, a taxicab driver.

Brian Keith Milligan, 26, of San Diego pleaded not guilty to the July 6 slaying and attempted robbery of Radio Cab driver David Curtiss Brown, 36, in a Logan Heights alley.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Kriston Anton urged the $5-million bail, saying Milligan is “an extreme danger to society.”

Brown was shot in the chest about 1:30 p.m. after dropping off a female passenger.

San Diego Municipal Judge Larry Stirling scheduled a preliminary hearing for Aug. 12. Milligan is also charged with brandishing a weapon, possessing a firearm as a felon and possessing cocaine.

Initially, Milligan was arrested July 7 on suspicion of committing a lewd act in public with a woman in an alley, but authorities were later unable to find the woman.
