MISSION VIEJO : City Approves Study of Fee Structure

Share

From bicycle licenses to wedding reception hall fees, the charges for many public services provided by the city will be reviewed by a consultant hired this week.

The City Council voted to pay $14,000 to Griffith & Associates to conduct the user-fee study over the next four months.

Before approving the contract, council members expressed concern that the study not be used to justify raising the fees. Irwin Bornstein, city finance director, said the city is in good financial shape and doesn’t need to take extraordinary measures to raise money.

“Many cities are using this type of study for that purpose,” he said. “Mission Viejo is not in the financial position other cities are in.”

The study would be the first time that Mission Viejo has taken a look at its fee schedule since the city’s incorporation in 1987.
