WORLD IN BRIEF : MEXICO : Ruling Party Sweeps Nuevo Leon Voting

Mexico’s ruling party, flexing its muscle ahead of midterm elections in August, scored a crushing victory in recent elections for governor and state deputies in the northern industrial state of Nuevo Leon, authorities said. Socrates Rizzo, gubernatorial candidate of the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), won 60% of the vote in Sunday’s race, and the PRI took 25 of 26 deputy seats. The conservative National Action Party won 31.5% of the gubernatorial vote and one deputy seat.
