SON OF SUN: Forgot to watch Thursday’s solar eclipse? There’s a better one coming up. . . . On Saturday, Jan. 4, Orange County will have a front-row seat for another close encounter between sun and moon. . . . John Mosley, a Griffith Observatory astronomer, said the Southland will be “the best place on Earth” to see the upcoming eclipse. . . . Mosley said 88% of the sun will be blocked, compared to 69% in this area Thursday. The best spot to view January’s solar event, which occurs right before sunset, will be on the beach.
