San Marino : New Fees for Trash Haulers
The city’s three trash hauling companies will have to pay a 5% franchise fee to the city beginning Sept. 1, the City Council decided Wednesday.
The fees--to be paid by B.F.I. (Browning-Ferris Industries) Community Disposal and Rodriguez Brothers Disposal--will generate about $60,000 this fiscal year.
City Manager Keith Till said the haulers may opt to pass along all or part of the cost to customers. If they pass along all of the cost, residents could expect a rate increase of about $1.10 per month. A 60-day notice of the increase would be required.
Part of the money raised by the fees will be used to repair road wear and tear caused by garbage trucks, Till said.
