Police Arrest 3 Colombians, Seize Cocaine

Share

Torrance police narcotics investigators Thursday seized 169 pounds of cocaine and arrested three Colombian suspects after watching an alleged drug deal take place in a Sun Valley supermarket parking lot.

The arrests are the latest in a two-year investigation of a South Bay drug operation that originates in Cali, Colombia, Lt. Dave Marsden said. Police withheld the names of the three arrested men for fear of alerting other suspects they hope to arrest, Marsden said.

Two of the men taken into custody about noon on Thursday were arrested after Torrance officers watched them exchange heavy packages in a Ralph’s parking lot at the corner of Laurel Canyon and Roscoe boulevards in Sun Valley.

The third man was arrested outside of Los Angeles County a few hours later, said Marsden, who would not reveal the location.

Including Thursday’s seizure, Torrance police have seized a total of 1,000 pounds of cocaine and more than $6 million cash from suspected Cali cartel members in the South Bay since February, 1989, Marsden said.
