Golden West College has awarded more than $500 in scholarships to 10 students in recognition of their academic achievements and community service during the past school year.

The scholarships are given annually to members of the college’s Alpha Gamma Sigma honor society. To qualify for the society, students must maintain a grade-point average of at least 3.0 and volunteer for community service activities.

The club’s Outstanding Member Award, which carries a $100 prize, went to Linda Monge of Huntington Beach. Monge, an elementary education major and a bilingual aide at Oak View Elementary School, previously was named Golden West’s Outstanding Student of the Year for 1990-91.
