Hit me again: The new scoring system for boxing left Kenneth Friday of the Air Force and Julian Wheeler of the Navy puzzled when the results were announced in their 125-pound semifinal.

Questions were raised when Friday defeated Wheeler, 10-9, to move into the final. Under the new electronic scoring system, boxers receive a point whenever three of the five scoring judges record the same punch by pushing a button within a one-second span.

“It’s weird,” said Wheeler, who couldn’t believe that only 19 punches landed in three rounds. “I just don’t understand the scoring.”

Said Friday: “I felt that both fighters landed more punches than that. I know it felt like I took more than that.”
