Paine Webber Group Inc.: The New York-based stock brokerage said second-quarter income soared 131% from a year ago to $33.8 million as revenue rose 11% to $520.4 million. The company said the results reflected a strong performance in its core businesses as well as the benefits of its cost-containment programs.
