From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Assembly Speaker Willie Brown removed Robert Franco of Del Rey Oaks from the 12-member California Coastal Commission. Franco, who was originally appointed by Brown, was a key supporter of the commission’s embattled executive director, Peter Douglas. The commission is scheduled to vote Friday on whether to fire Douglas. There was no indication whether Brown would replace Franco by then. Brown’s office has said only that he would like to name an ethnic minority or woman to the post. Brown had earlier indicated Franco would not be reappointed.
