Said Jack Mosley, whose son, Shane, was defeated by Steve Johnston of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sunday in a light-welterweight boxing match:

“It’s too bad Shane finally gets written about because he lost. If Shane never does anything else beyond this point, I’d still be very proud of my son.

“He’s never had any trouble with gangs or the police, he plays the saxophone, he was a high school honor student (at Pomona High) and he’s active in Pomona voter registration drives. Kids like that don’t get written about much, but that’s the way it is, I guess.”
