New L.A.-Shanghai Service: A new transpacific air carrier will begin service between the United States and China when China Eastern Airlines launches operations from Los Angeles to Shanghai with its new McDonnell Douglas MD-11 on Aug. 6. The twice-weekly flights will be the only direct link from the U.S. West Coast to Shanghai on a Chinese airline.
