Girl Scouts Furnish a Library for Indian Reservation

Junior Girl Scout Troop 365 of Huntington Beach has completed a yearlong project to furnish a library with about 4,000 books for the Kashaya-Pomo Indian Reservation school in Northern California.

The Juniors, who traveled with adult leaders by car, van and plane to see the remote reservation, raised money through recycling and cookie, nut and bake sales. The troop also received a $750 grant from Readers’ Digest.

While at the reservation, the troop hosted a banquet to celebrate completion of the project.

Troop members are Jennifer Alban, Isabelle Antongiorgi, Candice Chick, Cynthia Chick, Breanne Crowley, Maghan Crowley, Shauna Crowley, Ashley Gresh, Adia Hoag, Suzanne Jacetzold, Geanine Janesky, Joanne Jensen, Krissy Tachiro, Amy Wilson and Colleen McCullough. Adults leaders involved n the project which also included Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and one Senior Scout, were Mary Crowley, Pat Chick, Cynthia Blakely, Margaret Weimer, Suzie Janesky and Helen Hagen.

Frances R. Antes, winner of the 1991 Orange County Miss T.E.E.N. Pageant from a field of 46 contestants, will compete in the Thursday-through-Saturday California Miss T.E.E.N Pageant in Los Angeles.

The contestants will be judged on scholastic achievement, volunteer service, speech, talent, personal interview and formal presentation.

Frances, 16, is the daughter of Amelita and Pete Antes of La Mirada.

Fullerton citizens Curtis Dean, Jack Miller, Donna Judd, Karin S. deRiszner and Cecily A. Ballou have been named to the board of directors of the nonprofit Fullerton Sister City Assn.

Anaheim resident Mary Phuong Bui, a graduate of Western High School in Anaheim and Scripps College, has arrived in Ghana, West Africa, as a member of the Peace Corps.

Bui, who studied psychology and biology at Scripps, will teach chemistry and physics in a secondary school.

She is the daughter of Loan and Than Bui of Anaheim.

Steven Feldman of Steven’s Medical Pharmacy in Newport Beach was named Pharmacist of the Year by the Orange County Pharmacists Assn.

Irvine resident Joan Bissell, director of the UC Irvine office of the Drug Free Schools and Communities Program, was honored for her efforts to prevent drug abuse and to promote research and education at the recent annual awards program of the California Assn. of Drug Program Administrators and County Alcohol Program Administrators Assn. of California.

Newport Harbor High School junior Allison Graham of Newport Beach has received a $2,000 scholarship from the Orange County chapter of Executive Women International. The scholarship is for students who will study business in college.

Boy Scout Brian Lee Rober, 15, of Brea, who collected, repaired and renewed used toys which were donated to a residential center for children, received his Eagle rank at a Court of Honor at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Placentia.
