Another gold medal: Gymnast Shelley Engel of Huntington Beach won her second gold medal of the Festival, adding the floor exercise to the all-around championship she won Friday night.

Engel scored a 9.775 to beat Traci Sommer of Chatham, N.J., who scored 9.675.

Engel also finished tied for second in the balance beam with Jennifer Mercier of Waterville, Me., at 9.700. Denise Fierro of Covina won with a 9.775.

Engel finished sixth in the vault.

Setting the table: Costa Mesa’s Attila Malek completed his respectable run in table tennis, winning two of three preliminary matches to reach the quarterfinals in singles. He was beaten there, 21-12, 21-9, 21-12, by Sean O’Neill of McLean, Va., the six-time defending Festival champion.

Malek won a silver medal with the North in team competition, a bronze in men’s doubles and reached the quarterfinals in mixed doubles.
