Judge Rules in Favor of Bridgeport: A federal bankruptcy judge said there is no state law to prohibit Bridgeport, Conn., from filing for bankruptcy protection. He also said a state panel that oversees Bridgeport’s finances could not deny the city that right. The city must overcome all four of the state’s objections to be allowed to proceed with the bankruptcy petition. The other three issues in whether the city is insolvent have been the subject of a hearing that began July 16 and is expected to end today. The final decision is not expected until after July 30.
