VENTURA : Wheelchair Tennis Tourney to Be Held

Athletes from throughout the West will participate in the Gold Coast Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament Aug. 3 and 4 at Ventura College.

Participants will compete in nine wheelchair tennis divisions including men’s, women’s, quadriplegic, juniors and novice in the tournament, which will be hosted by the Ventura Department of Parks and Recreation and St. John’s Regional Medical Center.

Competition is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 3 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 4.

Player reservations will be taken until Friday, said Stephen Hartmann, parks department spokesman.

A $30 registration fee includes lunch on both days of the tournament and a barbecue dinner at San Buenaventura State Beach on the night of Aug. 3 served by the Ventura Marina Rotary Club.

The event is free to the public.
