The House Veterans Affairs Committee on Tuesday approved legislation that would create a memorial to honor World War II veterans.

The bill authorizes the American Battle Monuments Commission to establish the memorial on federal land in or near Washington. It also authorizes money for site preparation, design, planning, construction, maintenance and operation, but amounts are subject to further congressional review.
