Orchestra Selects Assistant Conductor

The Pacific Symphony has named Daniel Hege as assistant conductor for the 1991-92 season. He replaces Lucas Richman, who left the job in June after a three-year stint. Hege will assume the post on Aug. 1.

Hege, 25, is conductor of the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra of Los Angeles, instrumental music director of the Orange County High School for the Arts in Los Alamitos and music director of the South Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra.

An oboist and vocalist, he has a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the University of Utah, where he was music director of the university’s Utah Singers and founded and directed the University Chamber Orchestra.

Hege’s duties with the orchestra will include conducting its family concerts, in-school educational programs and free concerts for the Latino community. He also will assist music director Carl St. Clair in the preparation of concerts and with other duties.
