A 25-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly robbed a bank teller at gunpoint and led officers on a foot chase into a residential neighborhood, police said.

Ronald Weldon Slaton of Costa Mesa was booked into Orange County Jail in connection with the 3:56 p.m. robbery of a Bank of America branch at 16192 Harbor Blvd.

Police said a man wielding a handgun gave the teller a note demanding money, then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount.

Officers spotted the man in his truck at the intersection of Euclid Street and Edinger Avenue and followed the truck into a residential area, where the driver got out and jumped over a fence into a back yard, Sgt. Darryl Nance said.

Officers chased him to a nearby schoolyard, Nance said.

Later, officers found a waist purse stashed in a tree in one of the back yards, Nance said. The pack contained money police believed was stolen from the bank.
