A man found guilty of killing a teacher and wounding two other people at a West Covina vocational school was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years to life in prison.

Pomona Superior Court Judge Robert Dukes handed down the maximum sentence to Martin Anthony Meza, 25, of Duarte.

Meza, an alleged gang member, testified that he flew into a jealous rage after his girlfriend told him she had been raped by a counselor at the North-West College of Medical and Dental Assistants.

Lisa Villela, 20, said she concocted the story after Meza accused her of cheating on him. She was pregnant and claimed he often beat her. She served six months in jail for driving Meza’s getaway car.

Nursing instructor Carolyn Ruth Vasquez, 36, of West Covina, was killed in the Aug. 16 attack. Wounded were Robin Stanford of Rancho Cucamonga and Ronald Lee of Rosemead.
