SEAL BEACH : City Will Consider Redrawing Districts

Share

The City Council will soon form a committee to consider reforming district boundaries for council seats, Mayor Frank Laszlo said.

“If we keep stalling this, it’ll be 1993 before we look at it,” Laszlo said.

The committee will use U.S. Census data to evaluate whether the boundaries should be changed and if so, how.

The 1990 Census indicated that the city has a population of 25,098, but city officials think there are probably 2,000 to 2,200 more people than that living within the city boundaries.

“We think most of the miscount is in Leisure World,” said Lee Whittenberg, director of development services. City officials are looking into the possibility of having a recount and are waiting for the Census Bureau to provide more information on the cost and other details. Whittenberg said he expects to receive the information in the next couple of months.
