Girl Burned in Motor Home Blast Recovering
A La Puente girl badly burned in a Mexico motor home blast that killed seven family members is making an unexpectedly rapid recovery.
Rosy Garcia, 14, suffered third-degree burns over 61% of her body June 23. Doctors thought that she would be hospitalized for nearly three months, but she could be discharged by the end of this week. Rosy was in satisfactory condition Monday at Sherman Oaks Hospital, where she has undergone six skin-graft operations, said hospital representative Larry Weinberg.
Her father, Jose Garcia, 37, was driving the motor home to the Yucatan Peninsula when a propane tank apparently blew up. Rosy’s mother, four brothers, an aunt and a great-aunt were killed. Rosy was hospitalized locally for three days before being flown to Los Angeles for treatment of burns on her face, torso and thighs.
