Because of termite infestation a two-block area of the Santa Paula High School campus will be enclosed in a tent-like structure and fumigated, school officials said.

The Santa Paula Union High School District board Tuesday night accepted a bid by Antimite, a Ventura pest control company, to rid the complex of termites for $31,200.

Tahir Ahad, the district’s director of fiscal operations, said that the series of tents will go up late Friday and that the fumigation will take 24 hours.

The complex of buildings contains about 30 rooms, he said.

School officials had been aware of the termites, he said, but they did not know the extent of the problem until a $2.7-million renovation of the complex got under way.
