Muzzling Gates
The proposal by Los Angeles City Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas to prohibit Chief Daryl Gates from speaking out regarding changes recommended by the Christopher Commission shows Ridley-Thomas’ complete disregard for civil rights unless those exercising their civil rights meet Ridley-Thomas’ agenda (July 27).
Is the argument to change the Los Angeles Police Department so weak that the only way to get public approval is to deprive the opponents of their rights under the Constitution? It seems so.
