Gallop, Do Not Trot, to Get Your Feed Bag

Share

FOR THE GRAZING SET: Mr. Ed, the gravel-voiced palomino who starred in the 1960s sitcom of the same name, has decided to share his favorite accessory with viewers. The talking horse’s feed bag is now being sold--bearing a saucy photo of Mr. Ed in a top hat--through the Nick at Nite cable channel.

(In his most recent incarnation, Wilbur Post’s conversational companion has been appearing on Nick at Nite since 1986; the show is one of the channel’s most popular.)

The bag is made of 100% cotton canvas and sells for $14.95, plus $3 for shipping and handling. But to get one, you’ve gotta gallop. Mr. Ed is making his feed bags available only through Aug. 9. To order, call (800) 392-2000 or write to Mr. Ed Tote Bag, Nick at Night St., Ridgeley, Maryland 21686.

DEAR HOT: I’m the timid sort when it comes to lingerie. I like beautiful fabrics, but I’m not interested in maximum cleavage, panties that resemble G-strings or any of that hot-to-trot stuff. Is there any place I can buy quality lingerie that Madonna would have absolutely no interest in?

DEAR HOT SHOPPER: I can’t vouch for Madonna’s ever-shifting tastes, but if you look carefully in department stores and lingerie shops, you’ll find a few choices that aren’t too provocative. And if you want to shop where the only offerings are those suitable for Barbara Bush, get a copy of the new fall Talbots catalogue.

Talbots, which is known for reserved, refined apparel, recently added a dozen pages of lingerie to its 108-page catalogue. Like everything else in the book, the intimate apparel whispers what Talbots’ refers to as “classic femininity.”

Thus you’ll find demure, pretty styles, some in delicate floral prints from Eileen West. All but one pair of underpants rise modestly to the waist. And there’s not a garter belt or bustier in the lot. To receive a free catalogue, call (800) 882-5268.

MAX HEADROOM MEETS THE PUMP: The mannequins have video monitors for heads in the new Reebok “concept store” that opens Saturday in Santa Monica. The shop, which is said to contain the most extensive assortment of Reebok products in the world, is the company’s second such shop. The two-level store is at 2936 Main St. From 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, it will offer “The World’s Largest Step Reebok Class” in a nearby beach parking lot just south of Ocean Park Boulevard. The $10 class, designed to accommodate 2,000, will be taught by step pioneer Gin Miller.

If you just want to check out the video heads, you might see Step Reebok demos and great moments in sports history . . . when, of course, the athletes wore Reeboks.
